The Mass Incarceration Lab team is committed to respecting the privacy and
preferences of all individuals who share their stories on this website. We are
dedicated to fostering meaningful storytelling while upholding the principles
of informed consent.
All stories are provided with the consent of the story contributor. Identifiable
information and/or details that might reveal identities have been redacted [or
replaced by pseudonyms] in accordance with the wishes and intent of the
contributor.

- All stories shared on this website have undergone a lengthy and
comprehensive informed consent process. No aspect of an individual’s
identity, including but not limited to personal details, images, or any identifying
information, is revealed and/or shared on the website without the explicit and
informed consent of the respective individual. This consent is obtained
verbally or in writing after individuals are engaged in a thorough discussion of
the purpose, scope, and potential implications of their contribution. Consent is
consistently sought before any disclosure is made. - Individuals are provided with the option to specify their preferred degree of
anonymity. The available options range from complete anonymity, where no
identifiable information is disclosed, to disclosure of full name and image.
The selection of the desired level of anonymity is voluntary and is intended to
empower individuals to share their stories in a manner that aligns with their
comfort and personal preferences. - The redaction process is conducted to safeguard the anonymity of
participants while upholding the narrative and message of each story in a
manner that aligns with the original intent of the contributor.
